About Budding Minds
The name itself is very symbolic as our mission is to help children, adolescents, parents and families to grow by building a stable foundation to root them in the ground. By doing so, this will help such individuals to adapt to different seasons. As educational psychologists we have a special interest in learning and development, and how this affects an individual’s overall function. We believe that learning and development are the roots that help children to grow and so our mission is to help create a healthy system for them to do so.
Additionally, we are trained to assess cognitive, academic, personality and emotional functioning, and apply psychological interventions to enhance learning and development. This can be achieved through psycho-educational assessments, or through therapeutic interventions, such as play therapy. We are trained to identify barriers to learning and how to provide the necessary interventions related to this. Our mission is to help every child achieve their potential so that they can blossom into the best versions of themselves.
Stacey Cohen works at Budding Minds on a full time basis running the therapy and assessment division. Claire du Toit works on part-time basis focussing on assessments. Both psychologists head the workshop division by designing specific topics aimed at children, parents and teachers.

I have always had a special interest in child development. Like the symbolism of our name, I believe that every child has the potential to grow and flourish.
I have conducted research on how Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect the family with specific interest in the sibling. I have been trained to work psychodynamically however, I enjoy working from an eclectic approach where I create therapeutic interventions according to what my clients need. Additionally, therapy extends systemically. This means that when working with children, teens or parents, I like to work with the various systems involved in order to best fulfil the needs of the client.
My particular interests are assessments, dealing with divorce, ADHD, self-esteem, identity, anxiety, depression, bullying, parent guidance, learner support and adjustment issues.

I aspire to empower children and adolescents to achieve their unique potential and to flourish on an emotional, behavioural and academic level.
I have worked as a classroom teacher and a learning support teacher for 9 years. My special interests are assessments and learner support. I enjoy working collaboratively with the home and school environment so that individuals can develop to their full potential.
